The great blue heron is the largest of the herons in North America. I love their gray-blue plumage.

Great blue herons stand still waiting for their pray; it could be a fish or a small mammal.

Great blue herons group in colonies or heronies. They can be found close to ponds, estuaries, river banks, and lakes; but you get to see some close to meadows, farms and fields as well.

This image was taken at the George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary in Delta, BC, Canada. If you visit Vancouver, and you love photography and wildlife, don’t miss visitng this beautiful bird sanctuary.

I love this image because it reminds me of a college professor! What do you think?
