Birds of Canada: About the Sandhill Crane

Sandills at the George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary

There are two resident sandhill cranes at the George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary but many others fly in between late summer and the beginning of winter.
Sandhill  cranes are up to 1.5m high with a 2m wingspan. The patch on their forehead is what makes them apart from other similar birds.
In this image you can take a glance of the chick behind. Colts or chicks stay with their parents until they are about 10 months old when they fly to join other cranes.
