One of my favorite places to visit around Vancouver is the George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary in Delta, B.C.
This beautiful sanctuary is dedicated to the promotion and conservation of the waterfowl and wetlands in British Columbia.
Photographers and wildlife enthusiasts will find endless opportunities to watch and photograph all kinds of beautiful birds in their natural habitat.

There are two resident sandhill cranes at the sanctuary. I had photographed them before,  but this time they had a chick, also called colt, so it was kind of hard getting close to them because they could become aggressive.

I wanted to get a good close up to them. The camera settings for this image were as follows:

  • Camera: NIKON D300s
  • Lens: 70-300 mm   f/4.0-5.6
  • Shutter Speed:  1/800
  • F-Stop: f/7.1
  • Focal Length: 270 mm
  • Exposure program: Manual
